Under the tutelage of the illustrious Utzon Frank, young Bahner honed his skills, graduating from the Industrial Arts and Crafts College in 1930. The world soon witnessed his genius as he sculpted lifelike figures, their wooden pedestals standing tall in numerous exhibitions, earning him accolades and scholarships. While Bahner's initial fame came from his sculptural work, he eventually specialized in silver guilloche enamel jewelry. He founded his brand VB and opened his own workshop in 1939.<br><br> A nature enthusiast at heart, Bahner's designs drew inspiration from the flowers and plants of the Danish countryside. His pieces frequently featuring florals and butterflies, mirroring the vibrant essence of Denmark's natural beauty. His enameling techniques, especially the guilloche enamel, brought out the vibrancy of nature in his pieces. Butterflies, flowers, and the delicate calla lily, painted in hues of blue, white, and deep red, adorned brooches, earrings, and necklaces.<br><br> Volmer Bahner's designs were considered innovative for their time. Apart from his nature-inspired pieces, he also produced simple, non-figurative designs in the Art Deco style. His most recognizable designs, however, were the hearts and animal motifs, including fish and butterflies. Many of these were designed as gifts for young girls, resulting in rings, bracelets, and necklaces that were often quite petite in size.<br><br> Each masterpiece bore his signature - the initials VB, accompanied by the proud marks of STERLING and DENMARK. Some even whispered tales of an association with the renowned company, Christgau, with some of his creations bearing their mark.<br><br> His company, Volmer Bahner & Co, operated until 1988 and was later renewed and re-registered, sadly closing its doors in 2004.
