Ray Jay Scott
Ray Jay Scott entered the world on September 3, 1965, in Los Angeles, California. Though far from the mesas and canyons of Navajo land, his parents carried those traditions with them, and they made sure he grew up inside them. By the time he was seven, they had placed tools in his hands and shown him how silver and stone could be coaxed into shape. What began as a child’s introduction quickly rooted itself as his life’s direction.
As he matured, his vision stretched well beyond the lessons of his childhood bench. Studying history’s artistic footprints, from the precision of Ancient Egypt to the grandeur of the Renaissance, and wove those influences into his own layered sculptural style. The results were neither strictly traditional nor fully modern but something alive between the two.
Scott’s pieces have been recognized again and again, collecting awards and finding homes in museums and private collections across the world. Those who own them often speak of the weight they carry, not just in material but in spirit. For Scott, this isn’t surprising. He’s long said that every work he finishes feels like one of his children, each with its own character and soul.
That deep respect toward the craft, the culture he inherited, and the objects he creates has marked his entire career. It’s what makes his jewelry so sought after and what keeps his legacy tied to both his Navajo roots and the larger story of art.
