About Grann & Laglye

Learn About the brand

In the serene landscapes of Scandinavia, where fjords kiss the sky and northern lights dance, a legacy was being forged in silver. Grann & Laglye, not just a name, but an emblem of Scandinavian elegance, began its tale.

Founded by two master silversmiths, Jalhannes Lauritz Grann and Johannes Laglye, Grann & Laglye began its journey in the early 20th century. The duo's commitment to quality and craftsmanship was evident in every piece they crafted. Their country of origin, Denmark, became the backdrop for their creations, which soon garnered attention and admiration.

Grann & Laglye wasn't just limited to jewelry. Their initial venture into the world of silversmithing, had them creating silverware, sterling silver candlesticks, hollowware, and other accessories like candelabras. Their versatility was a testament to their expertise and their ability to adapt to different artistic demands.

While Grann and Laglye were undoubtedly skilled craftsmen, the company's most unique designs were often the brainchild of external designers. One such designer was Harald Folmer Gross. Gross, with his Art Deco-inspired designs, brought a fresh perspective to the company's offerings. His work wasn't just limited to Grann & Laglye; he also designed for renowned names like A Michelsen, P. Hertz, and Hans Hansen. Despite his significant contributions, little is known about Gross, making him an enigmatic figure in the world of Scandinavian jewelry design.

The company's journey saw a significant transition in 1955 when it was sold to Toxsvaerd. However, the legacy of Grann & Laglye didn't fade. Jean Laglye, one of the founders, continued to make his mark in the world of jewelry. In 1959, he established his own workshop, designing modernist jewelry until 1983. His contributions, along with those of other designers and craftsmen, ensured that Grann & Laglye's name remained etched in the annals of jewelry design.

Today, Grann & Laglye's journey stands as a testament to undying passion and the magic that hands can create. Their mark on Scandinavian jewelry design is not just a chapter but a saga, illuminating the power of dedication and talent.
